The Lemosho Route is considered one of the most beautiful and successful routes on Mount Kilimanjaro. Known for its excellent acclimatization profile, breathtaking scenery, and quieter trails during the early stages, this route offers one of the best overall summit experiences on the mountain.

The journey crosses rainforest, moorland, alpine desert, and glacial summit landscapes before reaching Uhuru Peak (5,895m) — the highest point in Africa.

Day 01 :

Arrival in Tanzania

Arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO).

Meet and greet by Exciting African Tours and transfer to your hotel in Moshi.

• Overnight in Moshi

• Climb briefing and equipment check

Day 02 :

Londorossi Gate → Mti Mkubwa Camp (2,650m)

Drive to Londorossi Gate for registration before starting the trek through lush rainforest.

• Hiking Time: 3–4 hours

• Overnight at Mti Mkubwa Camp

Day 03 :

Mti Mkubwa Camp → Shira 1 Camp (3,500m)

Leave the rainforest behind and enter the moorland zone with spectacular mountain views.

• Hiking Time: 5–6 hours

• Overnight at Shira 1 Camp

Day 04 :

Shira 1 Camp → Shira 2 Camp (3,850m)

A gradual trekking day across the Shira Plateau for better acclimatization.

• Hiking Time: 4–5 hours

• Overnight at Shira 2 Camp

Day 05 :

Shira 2 Camp → Lava Tower (4,630m) → Barranco Camp (3,950m)

A key acclimatization day following the “climb high, sleep low” strategy.

• Hiking Time: 6–8 hours

• Overnight at Barranco Camp

Day 06 :

Barranco Camp → Karanga Camp (4,035m)

Climb the famous Barranco Wall and continue through dramatic alpine terrain.

• Hiking Time: 4–5 hours

• Overnight at Karanga Camp

Day 07 :

Karanga Camp → Barafu Camp (4,640m)

Final approach to summit base camp with time to rest before summit night.

• Hiking Time: 4–5 hours

• Overnight at Barafu Camp

Day 08 :

Summit Day → Uhuru Peak (5,895m) → Mweka Camp

Begin the summit attempt around midnight and reach Uhuru Peak at sunrise.

After celebrating at the Roof of Africa, descend to Mweka Camp.

• Hiking Time: 10–14 hours

• Overnight at Mweka Camp

Day 09 :

Mweka Camp → Mweka Gate → Moshi

Final descent through rainforest to Mweka Gate.

Receive summit certificates before transfer back to Moshi.

• Hiking Time: 4–5 hours
