Day 1 – Arrival in Addis Ababa

Welcome to Ethiopia.

Upon arrival at Addis Ababa Bole International Airport, you will be met by your Exciting African Tours representative and transferred to your hotel.

Depending on your arrival time, enjoy an introduction to Ethiopia’s vibrant capital city. Addis Ababa, meaning “New Flower,” is Africa’s diplomatic capital and home to the headquarters of the African Union.

Highlights may include a visit to the National Museum of Ethiopia, home of the famous 3.2-million-year-old fossil Lucy, along with opportunities to experience Ethiopia’s renowned coffee culture.

Day 2 – Fly to Semera & Journey into the Danakil Depression

After breakfast, take a short flight to Semera, the gateway to the Afar Region.

From Semera, begin your journey into the legendary Danakil Depression, one of the hottest and lowest places on Earth, lying more than 120 meters below sea level.

Travel across dramatic desert landscapes before arriving at the breathtaking Lake Assale, a vast hypersaline lake famous for its brilliant white salt crust and mirror-like reflections.

Witness Afar salt miners cutting salt blocks by hand and observe camel caravans transporting salt across ancient trade routes that have existed for centuries.

Day 3 – Dallol: Ethiopia’s Most Colorful Landscape

Day 6 – Fly to Jinka: Gateway to the Omo Valley

After breakfast, fly to Jinka in southern Ethiopia.

The Omo Valley is recognized worldwide for its exceptional cultural diversity and rich human history. More than a dozen ethnic communities continue to preserve traditions, languages, and lifestyles passed down through generations.

Visit the Omo Valley Museum and gain valuable insight into the fascinating cultures you will encounter during your journey.

Day 7 – Mursi Village Experience & Mago National Park

Travel through Mago National Park to visit a traditional Mursi village.

Traditionally, young Mursi women begin wearing small lip plates during adolescence. Over time, the size may gradually increase according to personal preference.

Day 8 – Ari Villages & Key Afer Market

Visit traditional Ari villages where local families cultivate coffee, sorghum, maize, and other crops.

Later, visit the colorful Key Afer Market, one of the most vibrant markets in southern Ethiopia.

Here, multiple ethnic groups gather to trade livestock, grains, spices, honey, handmade crafts, and household goods, creating a lively cultural atmosphere.

Day 9 – Hamer Communities, Karo Villages & Omo River

Begin the day with a visit to a traditional Hamer village.

The Hamer are famous for their elaborate hairstyles coated with red ochre, colorful beadwork, and rich cultural traditions.

Continue to a Karo village overlooking the Omo River.

The Karo are renowned for their artistic body painting using natural pigments, chalk, and charcoal. These beautiful designs are often created for ceremonies and celebrations.

Day 10 – Return to Addis Ababa & Departure
