Day 1 – Addis Ababa – Semera – Lake Assale – Dallol
Early morning flight from Addis Ababa to Semera, the gateway to the Afar Region.
Upon arrival, meet your Afar guide and begin the drive into the Danakil Depression. Travel across spectacular desert scenery before reaching the famous Lake Assale salt flats.
Witness traditional Afar salt miners cutting large blocks of salt by hand and loading them onto camel caravans that continue to follow ancient trade routes used for centuries.
Continue to Dallol, one of the most unique geological sites on Earth. Explore colorful sulfur fields, bubbling geothermal springs, crystal formations, salt canyons, and mineral terraces painted in shades of yellow, green, orange, and white.
Enjoy sunset over the salt flats before returning to camp.

Day 2 – Erta Ale Volcano Expedition
After breakfast, drive deeper into the Afar Depression toward Erta Ale Volcano.
Known as the “Smoking Mountain,” Erta Ale is one of the world’s most active volcanoes and among the few places where visitors can observe a permanent lava lake.
The route passes through dramatic lava fields and volcanic terrain before reaching the base of the volcano.
In the late afternoon, begin the trek to the summit. Upon arrival at the crater rim, witness the spectacular sight of molten lava glowing beneath the night sky.
Enjoy one of Africa’s most remarkable natural experiences while learning about the geological forces shaping the Great Rift Valley.

Day 3 – Sunrise at Erta Ale – Semera – Addis Ababa
Wake before dawn to enjoy sunrise over the volcano and the vast Afar Desert below.
After breakfast, descend from Erta Ale and begin the return journey to Semera.
Along the way, enjoy additional views of the dramatic volcanic and desert landscapes that make the Danakil Depression one of the most unique destinations on Earth.
